CHRISTIAN BURGESS has been named as the PFA League One player of the month for January – just days after making his 200thappearance for Pompey.
The 28-year-old centre back has missed just one league game this season and has cemented his place at the heart of Kenny Jackett’s defenceHe played in all eight games as Portsmouth won seven and drew once in January, scoring twice, including the winner in a 1-0 victory at Bolton. He was up against Gillingham’s John Akinde, Rotherham’s Dan Barlaser, Sunderland’s Chris Maguire, Coventry’s Sam McCallum and Peterborough’s Ivan Toney for the Bristol Street Motors-sponsored prize.
It is the third time a Pompey player has taken the accolade after top scorer Ronan Curtis picked up the award in both November and December.
There could be further honours for the club tomorrow with Jackett up for the Sky Bet League One January manager of the month, while Steve Seddon has been nominated for the Sky Bet player of the month prize.
