Former boss draws Pompey a FA Cup clash with Fleetwood

PORTSMOUTH were handed an all-League One FA Cup clash with Fleetwood Town in the third-round draw.

Pompey had to wait until injury time to claim a hard-earned win over National League North side Altrincham in the second-round clash at Fratton Park on Saturday, Brett Pitman sealing a 2-1 success.

And it was former Pompey boss Tony Adams who drew Kenny Jackett’s team in the live third round draw on BBC2 on Monday night, booking them the long trip to the north west coast for the game against Joey Barton’s side, who currently sit two points and three places above Pompey.

Before that cup clash on January 4, Jackett’s side must first switch their attentions to the EFL Trophy with a home tie against Northampton Town on Tuesday, with many of the starting XI who struggled to beat Altrincham likely to be rested ahead of Saturday’s key league game against Peterborough United.

Skipper Tom Naylor and Ross McCrorie are both in contention for the game against the Cobblers after recovering from hamstring problems, with Andy Cannon also likely to get a rare start.
