Pompey issue statement on coronavirus

PORTSMOUTH have told fans that Saturday’s home game against Accrington Stanley currently goes ahead as planned in response to the news that several Arsenal players are self-isolating.

The club have issued a statement after the Arsenal players took action following confirmation that Olympiakos owner Evangelos Marinakis contracted coronavirus.

The Gunners say Marinakis, who also owns Nottingham Forest, met a number of their players when they faced the Greek side in a Europa League match two weeks ago – Arsenal played Pompey in the FA Cup at Fratton Park four days later.

As a precaution, Arsenal’s Premier League game against Manchester City has been postponed.

The Portsmouth statement read: “We are in contact with our governing bodies and await further instructions from them. Until then, we will continue to follow government guidelines and adhere to their advice.”
