POMPEY’S reward for claiming the first spot in the Carabao Cup second round is an away tie at Queens Park Rangers.
Kenny Jackett’s side kicked off the tournament in front of the Sky TV cameras with a 3-0 win over Birmingham City at Fratton Park last week, with goals from Ben Close and a brace from Ellis Harrison.
On Tuesday night Rangers were held to a 3-3 draw by fellow Championship side Bristol City at Loftus Road, but went on to win a less than impressive penalty shoot-out that saw five spot kicks missed or saved. QPR eventually went through 5-4 with Liam Kelly saving from Bristol City captain Bailey Wright.
The two teams met in last season’s FA Cup fourth round with a 1-1 draw at Fratton Park before QPR won the replay 2-0. The tie will be played at Loftus Road in the week beginning August 26.
