PORTSMOUTH have further increased their defensive options ahead of the new season by taking Norwich centre-back Sean Raggett on a season-long loan.
The 26-year-old made ten loan appearances for Championship side Rotherham last season, scoring the winner in a 1-0 success over Millwall.
But his spell at the Millers was cut short by an ankle injury, and he is now keen to get some game-time. His first-team opportunities at Norwich look limited at present, with the Canaries likely to turn to their more experienced players following promotion to the Premier League.
Rotherham boss Paul Warne is a big fan of Raggett, labelling him an old school defender who offered a threat at set-pieces.
Speaking about his arrival at Fratton Park, Raggett said: “Going to Norwich was a big jump and it’s definitely improved me, even if I haven’t played many games for them.
“This (Portsmouth) is obviously a massive football club and it doesn’t really need selling. When I got talking to the manager, I thought this was the place I wanted to come to.
“Nobody’s got any right to play in the team, so I’m here to work hard and win my shirt. Hopefully I can do that.
“This is a big season for me and the aim is to get Pompey back in the Championship.”
Meanwhile, Pompey’s Carabao Cup clash with Birmingham has been selected for live television coverage by Sky. The first round tie at Fratton Park has been brought forward to Tuesday, August 6, 7.45pm kick-off.
