Walkes quits Pompey and crosses pond for Atlanta

ANTON WALKES has ended his two-year spell at Fratton Park by signing for MLS side Atlanta.

The versatile defender has struggled to nail down a regular first team spot and has decided to return to Atlanta where he spent a successful spell on loan before joining Portsmouth from Tottenham Hotspur in January 2018.

The 22-year-old racked up 66 appearances for Pompey but spent most of the time filling in – playing midfield in his last appearance at Fleetwood last weekend.

Portsmouth manager Kenny Jackett said: “Anton’s girlfriend is from America and they have a daughter together, so this is a really good opportunity for him to make a new start over there.”
